The number of Vietnamese restaurants in Hong Kong is going up like a crescendo, but sadly most aren’t that great, and the handful that are amazing stays on the very pricey side. Luckily, I found BÊP, a restaurant under the Nha Trang Group. Looking for a quick and tasty lunch with an unbeatable price tag? Getting a full-on Vietnamese fix? BÊP has you all covered. Lunch set prices are around a hundred bucks, including a starter and a main with choices from Vietnamese spring roll and roast pork belly to traditional phở and curry with rice. No compromises were made on the quality despite the price, and it’s hard to resist such good value lunch deals. My all-time-favourite is their Bun Rieu on the ala carte menu- rice noodles with crab in a decadent tomato broth. This is out-of-this-world good: their tomato broth has a kick of garlicky flavour, unlike those thick and gooey soup base you’ll find anywhere, this is lighter but still offers the same type of comfort. Not only do you get actual pieces of crab, their mashed crabmeat with egg and shrimp balls are also insanely scrumptious!
Be sure to order their Chicken Satay Skewers too, the bed of hot peanut sauce was oh-so-addictive!
I have yet to find a more comforting bowl of noodle, so I guess you’ll see me at BÊP very often slurping my Bun Rieu, maybe on a rainy day, sad day, and most probably.. any other days. (It is that good!)
